Read on below to check out what’s been happening in the cabinet industry: EPA to Seek New Limits on Commercial Truck Pollution EPA announced earlier this month that the Administration will seek new limits on pollution from commercial trucks. Officials at the agency say pollution rules for commercial vehicles are long overdue for an update after nearly 20 years. “It’s definitely about time. The world has changed in a lot of ways over those 20 years. One thing we know is that these vehicles can be made cleaner, lower emitting," explained Bill Wehrum, assistant administrator of the EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation. Check out what’s been happening: OSHA Proposes More Workable Injury and Illness Rules According to Bloomberg Government, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has proposed to drop its mandate that work sites send the agency reports on every injury and illness. The Coalition for Workplace Safety believes "OSHA should stop collecting all the forms [as they] put employers at risk for improper disclosure and release of sensitive employer information."   The Coalition also worries that "unions and affiliated groups could obtain court orders under the Freedom of Information Act to force OSHA to release company data.” NGBS Approves Incorporation of KCMA A161.1 Certification The National Green Building Standard (NGBS) recently voted to incorporate KCMA A161.1 certification for earning points towards NGBS...

Earlier this month, the National Association of Manufacturers held its annual Manufacturing Day – a day created to address common misperceptions about manufacturing by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing is — and what it isn’t.   The goal of Manufacturing Day was to address the growing skills gap – many manufacturers today face a skilled labor shortage as many baby boomers begin to retire. Check out what’s been happening in the cabinet industry the last few weeks from the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association: Slower Growth Anticipated in Home Remodeling After several years of solid acceleration, annual growth in national home improvement and repair spending is expected to soften in 2019, according to the latest  Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity  (LIRA) from the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. Rising mortgage interest rates and flat home sales activity around much of the country are expected to impact otherwise strong growth in homeowner remodeling spending moving forward. Low for-sale inventories are presenting a headwind because home sales tend to spur investments in remodeling and repair both before a sale and in the years following. Overall, annual expenditures for residential improvements and repairs by homeowners is still expected to grow to over $350 billion nationally through the third quarter of 2019...
