Check out what’s been happening lately:
Coalition for
Accurate Product Labels
Last month KCMA officially joined the Coalition for Accurate Product Labels
(CAPL), which is seeking federal legislation to address industry concerns
with state and locally mandated warning labels and disclosure requirements,
such as California’s Prop 65. The Coalition is co-chaired by the American
Chemistry Council, the Grocery Manufacturers Association and the National
Council for Farmer Cooperatives. They currently have 73 members, roughly 1/3 of
which are food and agriculture associations, 1/3 are general business
associations and 1/3 are consumer specialty product associations such as KCMA.
In relation to this effort, in June Senator Moran (R-KS) and
Representatives Kinzinger (R-IL) and Schrader (D-OR) introduced the Accurate
Labels Act, legislation that would require state labeling mandates to meet
a federal science and risk-based standard.
The Real State of American Manufacturing
We are nine years into the recovery from the Great
Recession, a year and a half into a new business-minded presidency, and
currently in the wild midst of a digital transformation rocking the entire
manufacturing sector. In many ways, this is probably one of the most exciting,
turbulent and opportunity-rich times manufacturing has seen since the end of
World War II.

Does Climate Change Make Trees Grow Faster?
Trees are growing more rapidly due to climate change - this
seems like it would be a good thing for the environment. A team from the
Technical University of Munich (TUM) analyzed wood samples from the oldest
existing experimental forest areas spanning a period of 150 years to
find out if this was true.
From these samples, the team was able to demonstrate that the annually growing wood has gradually become lighter since observations began - by up to eight to twelve percent since 1900. So while the volume of wood being produced today has increased - it actually contains less material.

MFG Day 2018
Did you know 35 percent of students engaged in career
and technical education (CTE) have no contact with potential future employers,
according to a recent report by the Manufacturing Institute? Manufacturing
Day is an event meant to inspire and recruit the next generation of
manufacturers and it's the perfect time to make that connection happen as
students near graduation and contemplate their first forays into the
professional job market.
Manufacturing Day is coming up on October 5, 2018. Click here to host an event. If your company is hosting an event on October 5, please let us know. We'd love to promote it.
