OVERCOME LIMITING MINDSETS TO IMPROVE SAFETY
Safety in the workplace is critical, especially in a manufacturing environment. And while most companies have extensive resources for reducing injuries and incidents, safety performance at many organizations can plateau after an initial phase of improvement according to a recent piece from McKinsey & Company.

According the the article, this plateau occurs when not enough attention is paid to the underlying employee mind-sets that shape personal safety behaviors:
  1. Fear of blame: “If I report an incident, I’ll be punished”
  2. Disempowerment:  "Safety is someone elses's job"
  3. Trade off:  "Safe means less productive"
  4. Fatalism:  "Injuries are part of the job"
  5. Complacency:  "Cultural change takes time"
A change in these perspectives can have a big impact and identifying limiting mind-sets is a crucial first step toward building a sustainable safety culture. Read the full piece to learn methods for shifting these mind-sets.
